This week's cheese is Gouda. It comes from the Netherlands/Holland or more specifically from the town Gouda. It is a round cheese. It's caramel colored with a red wax rind (don't eat it!). To me it tastes like smoky cheddar, others have said it tasted almost sweet to them. You can buy it smoked, so that's probably why it tasted that way to me =). It can be used in anything cheddar can. It also is to be considered a dessert cheese apparently. Who knows, I just made grilled cheese with it! It was about $3.50 for a small wedge. Websites I looked at said that it was one of the most popular cheeses in the world. I may need to taste test some more...
