#45 Sausage and Fennel Ragout with Creamy Polenta

First off, I am having trouble finding the link for recipes now, I'll keep at it. Two ingredients in this recipe tonight, I have never had before. Fennel and Polenta. Fennel is some kind of bulb. I don't think it's an onion, but if you look it up, it has a whole list of medical uses, intestinal issues, cough medicine, constipation, bloating, and other stuff. Fennel seed is used in sausage. Anise is the same thing as fennel I think. There is a picture of the gigantic fennel tree with Jensen. He's not sure whether to eat it or put christmas lights on it. My sister was right, if you cook it wrong, it can taste bitter, but if cooked just right (until translucent), it has a sweet almost liquorice fragrance and taste. Just smelling it raw smells just like liquorice. Interesting, I thought. Polenta was also new to me, it is basically creamy cornmeal. If you like grits or potato pearls that you get from the cannery, then you would like this. Same taste and texture. You can put anything you like into it to make it taste how you want. I bought instant polenta, but you can buy it in a big tube and fry up slices or add liquid to thin it out I'll bet. So, it was just a skillet sausage mixture spooned over polenta. I took the picture really close to the food this time to get a good shot of the texture in the dish. I thought it was kinda pretty. Justin liked this better than I did. I think the reason for that was because he was making jokes and kept referring to the polenta as "placenta".........kinda ruined it for me!

I wish I lived close so I could see that cute boy and also taste all these recipes.

  2. The polenta part sounds better than licorice tasting anything. I'll have to remember that I probably wouldn't like fennel. Good to know, thanks for the info!
