Feta

This week's cheese is Feta. It is Greek, and is used in many Greek dishes. I bought Feta crumbles, but you can buy it in a block. It is a curd cheese made from cow's milk. They make it from sheep and goat milk too, but I think it's more standard from a cow in this neck of the woods. It is milk white, and has a very distinct acquired taste. It is very sharp, kinda salty I would say, almost a moldy taste-but in a good way! You either like it or you don't. I love it! I put it in salads. The feta cheese curds I bought was $2.68 for an 8oz tub. I believe it is most commonly put in Greek or Mediterranean salads. Where there is olives, you might find feta cheese. This is not the kind of cheese where you would eat a slab of it. You wouldn't make a grilled cheese sandwich out of it. Small amounts of this stuff is the way to go. Sprinkle it over any dish to fancy it up.
